FAQS
Your questions, answered
As a Sheffield chiropractor practice, we get asked the same questions again and again. Thinking about booking, or just want to know how it all works? Here are the ones that come up most. If yours isn’t here, call us on 0114 2745656 and we’ll happily talk it through.
APPOINTMENTS AND BOOKING
Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor in Sheffield?
No. In the UK, chiropractors are primary healthcare professionals, so you can book directly with us without a referral from your GP. If you plan to claim on private health insurance, check with your insurer first, as some ask for a referral or pre-authorisation before they cover treatment. Otherwise, just get in touch.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book online through our website in a couple of minutes, or call reception on 0114 2745656 and we will find you a time that works. New patients are welcome, and you do not need a referral to get started.
Can I get a same-day chiropractor appointment?
Often, yes. We are open late during the week and on Saturday mornings, and we frequently have same-day appointments. If you are in pain and want to be seen quickly, call 0114 2745656 and we will find you the earliest available slot, or book online to see what is free today.
What happens at my first visit?
Your first visit is about understanding what is going on. We take your history, assess you, and explain what we have found and whether chiropractic can help before any treatment begins. If it is not the right fit, we will tell you and point you the right way. See Your First Visit for the full six steps.
How long does an appointment take?
Appointments are 60 Minutes
COSTS AND INSURANCE
How much does an appointment cost?
A new patient chiropractic assessment is £75 and sports massage is £60. Classes at The Attic, our movement studio, are £10 per session, covering yoga, Pilates and sound baths. Our six-week Yoga for Back Care course is £75. Book online or call 0114 2745656.
Do you accept health insurance?
We are recognised by Westfield Health, AXA Health, Vitality and WPA, so many patients can put their policy towards their care. Check your own policy for chiropractic cover before booking, as some insurers ask for a referral or pre-authorisation first. If you are paying yourself, no referral is needed.
Is chiropractic available on the NHS?
Chiropractic is mainly a private service in the UK and is not routinely available on the NHS, so most patients pay privately or use health insurance. In some areas a GP can refer for NHS-funded care, but this depends on local provision. You are welcome to book with us directly, no referral needed.
ABOUT CHIROPRACTIC CARE
What conditions can a chiropractor help with?
Chiropractic is commonly used for back pain, mechanical neck pain, shoulder complaints, headaches that arise from the neck, migraine prevention, sciatica, hip and knee osteoarthritis pain, minor sports injuries, and general aches, spasms and tension. At your first visit we assess whether chiropractic is right for you, and we are honest if it is not.
Is chiropractic safe?
Chiropractic is a regulated healthcare profession. In the UK the title chiropractor is protected by law and every chiropractor must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council. Treatment is generally considered safe when carried out by a registered chiropractor, and yours will assess you, explain the benefits and any risks, and gain your consent before starting.
What is a chiropractic adjustment, and why does it sometimes make a popping sound?
An adjustment is a controlled, hands-on technique applied to a joint to help improve how it moves. The popping or cracking sound you sometimes hear is thought to be gas releasing from within the joint, which is a normal part of the process. Your chiropractor will explain each step as they go.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on you: what is going on, how long you have had it, and how your body responds. After assessing you, we recommend a plan and explain the reasoning, then review it as we go. You are never tied in, and we will always be straight with you about progress.
