Chiropractic

Chiropractors specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the joints, muscles and soft tissues, particularly those of the spine and their effect on the nervous system.

The chiropractor is a specialist clinician. Five years of training mean highly developed diagnostic skills, and as a professional consultant he/she can determine whether manipulation is appropriate for the condition, or whether the patient should be referred for other types of treatment or further investigation.

Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO CHIROPRACTORS TREAT?

Chiropractic care isn’t one-size-fits-all. Your treatment plan is tailored to what your body needs. The main technique is an adjustment, which gently encourages stiff joints to move properly again. We often combine this with soft tissue work to relax tight muscles and support healing in tendons and ligaments. This may include massage, dry needling (acupuncture needles), Graston tools or trigger point release. You’ll also get simple advice on movement, posture and work habits to help you recover faster and reduce the chance of your problem returning.

Chiropractic treatment can be effective for certain musculoskeletal conditions, particularly low back pain, neck pain, and some types of headaches. Research suggests that spinal manipulation, a common chiropractic technique, can provide pain relief and improve function for these issues, often comparable to conventional treatments like physical therapy or pain medication.

Research supports chiropractic care—especially spinal manipulation—as a reasonable option for certain back and neck pain and related headaches, with effectiveness comparable to other conservative therapies. However, it is not strongly supported as a definitive treatment for a wide range of other health problems and higher-quality large trials are still needed to clarify many questions.

Feel better. Move better. Perform better.

Sports Massage Therapy

Sports massage is a deeper style of massage designed to relieve muscle tension, speed up recovery and improve performance. Despite the name, it’s not just for athletes. If you have tight shoulders from the desk, aching legs from running, or general muscle pain that keeps returning, sports massage can help.

It also pairs brilliantly with chiropractic care. Many patients use sports massage between their chiropractic sessions to keep their body working at its best.

Frequently Asked Questions

What techniques do we use?

Our therapists tailor treatment to your needs, using techniques like –

• Deep tissue and friction massage
• Soft Tissue Release (STR)
• Trigger point therapy
• Myofascial release
• Neuromuscular techniques
• Dry needling
• Muscle Energy Technique (MET)
• Ultrasound therapy
• Targeted rehab exercises

You don’t need to know the jargon. You just need results.

Sports massage can be uncomfortable at times, but it should not be intensely painful. Because it targets tight muscles, knots, and areas of tension—especially after training or injury—you may feel pressure, soreness, or a “good pain” sensation during the massage. However, a skilled therapist will adjust the pressure to your tolerance, and you should always communicate if it feels too painful. Some mild soreness afterward is normal and usually fades within a day or two, often leaving muscles feeling looser and more relaxed.

Many people notice immediate relief such as reduced tightness and improved movement. It’s also common to feel mild soreness or fatigue for 24–48 hours afterward, especially if the massage was deep or you had significant muscle tension. Most people feel the full benefits—greater flexibility, less pain, and improved recovery—within 1–3 days. Staying hydrated, doing light movement, and avoiding intense exercise right after can help you recover faster.

What Our Patients Say

If it wasn’t for the amazing practitioners at Sheffield Chiropractic I wouldn’t be pain free and mobile! After a series of accidents and back problems and years of failed treatment elsewhere I found these guys and I have to say, they are utterly amazing, very professional, very kind and know exactly what they are doing. They have literally turned my life around with the quality of care and treatment I have received. Highly recommended.

Can’t recommend massage therapy with Paul highly enough . I have had numerous appointments over the years after suffering from RSI during work related duties . I can genuinely say he has very quickly diagnosed and supplied very immediate and specific treatment including comprehensive after care advice and/or excerises. All carried out with discretion, understanding and a very personable professional manner. Keep up the excellent work!

Client

After snapping my cruciate ligament in a skiing accident, Paul was my life saver. From surgery to full recovery, Paul has been amazing. I had little joy with the NHS physiotherapy treatment and this is when I was recommended to Paul. I have subsequently had treatment from Paul for Tennis elbow, Achilles tendonitis and sports massages. I cannot thank or recommend him, highly enough.
